“When Mountains Talk” – that’s the title of my presentation because I want to invite folks into a conversation with the Earth. The Earth has a language, and the science of geology is our collective understanding of what the Earth tells us about its history and operating manual. The Earth writes these stories in rock, soil, and landscapes, and what makes the Garibaldi Lake area such a remarkable place is that the Earth has written its stories so clearly and with such diversity and abundance. My “When Mountains Talk” presentation pulls together what geologists over many years have uncovered about this remarkable place.
Dr. Bob Turner is a long-time resident of Nexw̱lélexw̱em (Bowen Island), its former mayor, a retired federal geoscientist, and author of several books on the geology of the Vancouver and Sea to Sky region. He is also a filmmaker with over 50 short movies about wildlife and wild places around the Salish Sea that are posted on his Bob Turner YouTube channel and website (OurSalishSea.ca).
